The Bacteria Jelbag stores bacteria in its gelatinous body, which assist it in its simple digestive processes for shelter and nutrients. It forms an acidic coat on its skin, and, if needed, the Jelbag can concentrate bacteria towards a tentacle to induce a mild sting. It can also leave an acidic trail of bacteria behind it as it swims. The reason it needed these extra defenses is that some of its predators included blind Hypotheticus.
