The Hypotheticus Chronicles

Broad-Leafed Treeclimber

The Broad-leafed Treeclimber has developed longer leaves to provide more surface area when "holding its breath" around Lifebreather Wyrms. With these larger leaves, it is capable of staying around Lifebreather Wyrms for longer amounts of time, and better provide oxygen to itself during this time. Parent Treeclimbers do not leave the nest to be around Lifebreather Wyrms, and only once the Broad-leafed Treeclimber offspring have sufficiently established leaves do they risk going towards Lifebreather Wyrms. The Broad-leafed Treeclimbers' runners are longer, and thus typically curled, now having anchoring "turrets" in the exoskeleton. They may retract partly into these turrets if needed. The runners, with their curled tips, can also be used to transport more food or nesting material while climbing.
