The Bubblegum Bagworm has developed pointed dark markings on its eyes, giving it the impression of being angry at something. It also sports small pink spots on the sides of its face, which probably serve as eyespots to make predators think it sees them coming.* It differs little in physical features from its predecessor, as its most distinctive difference is not an adapted limb but its pinkish saliva. It carries a bubble of its pink saliva, resembling expanded bubblegum, outside of its mouth, and pops this bubble to slather scent on parts of its territory, startle predators by spitting the wad of "gum" at them, or expand into a filamentous net to capture more algae, which it will then swallow. It also slathers the sticky pink saliva onto its eggs, which conveniently capture drifting algae and, once they are digested by the saliva, transfer their liquid nutrients into the eggs.
